Davis Paces Chargers at UW-Whitewater Spring Fling

BELOIT, Wis.

Katelyn Davis (Henderson, Ill./Galesburg) led three Chargers with rounds in the 90s as the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team opened its spring season Saturday at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Spring Fling at the Beloit Club.

Davis shot a 93 to tie for 34th as Sandburg totaled a 394 to finish 11th as a team in the event that was shortened from two rounds to one. Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) shot a 95, Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) carded a 96 and Grace Scott (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) had a 101 for the Chargers’ other scores. Hayley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) posted a 110 for Sandburg.

Illinois Wesleyan shot 315 to win the team title by nine strokes over Cardinal Stritch. IWU was led by Galesburg High School graduate Jordan Koehler, whose 76 was second in the individual standings.

The Chargers will wrap up their spring season at the Augustana Viking Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Highland Springs in Rock Island. The first round takes place at noon Saturday, followed by Sunday’s second round at 9 a.m.
